CareerSource South Florida Returns to eMerge Americas 2023

(MIAMI, FL) - April is Miami Tech Month! Some of the worlds’ most influential thought leaders will gather in South Florida to explore strategies that will position this region as a global tech hub. The eMerge Americas Summit, a signature event, will be held on April 20th and 21st at the Miami Beach Convention Center. For the second consecutive year CareerSource South Florida has invited industry experts to join us on the “Texpert” Stage to discuss market trends and opportunities for workforce and economic development.

Serving as the official workforce development agency for Miami-Dade and Monroe County, CareerSource South Florida is a leader in launching innovative career development programs in support of TechHire, a national initiative first introduced to close the skills gap in traditionally underserved communities. CareerSource South Florida TechHire centers provide access to Information Technology accelerated learning options that provide the fastest career paths to good skilled jobs with high wages.

CareerSource South Florida launched the first center in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami to serve youth and help them build a foundation for success in the highly competitive tech industry. The next center opened in partnership with the Opa-Locka Community Development Corporation to erode the digital divide. A third center was established at YWCA South Florida and offers the Women in Tech program in collaboration with New Horizons. The Women in Tech program is designed to extend the IT experience beyond the classroom.

With the most recent investment, CareerSource South Florida will sponsor a new TechHire Center in partnership with The Overtown Youth Center to prepare youth and young adults for the jobs of tomorrow.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment in computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 15 percent from 2021 to 2031, much faster than the average for all occupations. This increase is expected to result in about 682,800 new jobs over the decade. About 418,500 openings each year, on average, are projected to come from growth and replacement needs. The median annual wage for this group was $97,430 as of May 2021.
