Governing Innovation and Public-Private Partnerships
Bilzin Sumberg Leads Roundtable Discussion at the 2019 eMerge Americas Technology Conference
Miami, FL, April 15, 2019 – A panel of experts from both the public and private sector will gather to share their thoughts on Governing Innovation: Promoting Technology, Efficiency & Sustainability, as Bilzin Sumberg hosts its second annual eGov roundtable discussion at the 2019 eMerge Americas Technology Conference.
The panel discussion will explore how innovation and technology are driving real estate and infrastructure development, including transit-oriented development, sustainability, and green infrastructure and building.
As the government responds to community demands for energy-efficient options to standard construction alternatives, opportunities arise for collaboration between public and private entities to move these innovations forward.
"Traditionally, the government has needed to focus on meeting budgetary parameters when procuring public improvement projects," said panel moderator Javier Aviñó, who is Partner and Land Development & Government Relations Practice Group Leader at Bilzin Sumberg. "Through public-private partnerships (P3), we see the two sectors collaborating to go beyond budget concerns and really bring innovation."
"The government is also looking for ways to reduce its own carbon footprint by focusing on critical infrastructure projects, including water and waste management," added Andrej Micovic, Associate at Bilzin Sumberg focused on Public-Private Partnerships. "For example, in the last few years, we have seen governments across the country negotiating P3s to develop waste-to-energy facilities. When properly planned, the P3 model generates long-term efficiencies that cannot be obtained through traditional design-bid-build procurements by aligning the incentives of the public and private sectors."
Industry leaders have confirmed their participation in this timely and robust discussion. Participants represent both the public and private sectors and include:
